Have you ever gone out to dinner with friends and found yourselves shouting to be heard above loud music and high background noise? In this presentation, we’ll discuss how the scenario led to the "cone of silence" project, how several teams of capstone students contributed to its development, and the current state of the research.

Speaker Bios:
Arnie Berger is an Associate Professor in the EE degree program in the School of STEM. In 2008 he chaired the faculty committee that created the EE degree program. Before coming to UWB, Dr. Berger worked in the technology industry at Hewlett-Packard, Advanced Micro Devices and Applied Microsystems Corporation, where he held engineering and management positions. He is the author of three books on embedded systems and received a BS and PhD from Cornell University.

George Cheruvathur is a Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Washington with industry experience as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon Web Services. His work spans cloud-based distributed systems, embedded real-time computing, and FPGA development. He is passionate about combining software and hardware to solve complex real-world problems.
