NEW 2026 Summer Program Offerings 


Resistance and Resilience in Ireland: Arts, Advocacy and Health Promotion

Summer Term A: June 19-July 3 (Ireland), July 8-17 (U.S.) 
Ireland and U.S. (hybrid)
Led by the UW Bothell faculty Jody Early and Andrea Stone, NHS
10 credits + 2 credit pre-departure seminar in Spring Quarter

Explore how Ireland’s rich history, culture and the arts have shaped its contemporary policies and advocacy in public health, healthcare, human rights, and social justice. The program includes field experiences in Dublin, Belfast, Kilkenny and Waterford. 


Spain: The Science and Art of Solar Eclipses

Summer Term B 
Leon, Spain
Led by the UW Bothell faculty David Goldstein, IAS and Paola Rodriguez Hídalgo, STEM
12 credits, including NSc, A&H/SSc

The four-week program includes viewing the eclipse from an ideal location, visits to local sites such as observatories, an excursion to Madrid, guest lectures from scholars at the University of León and several other institutions, possibilities for community engagement, homestays with Spanish families, and the opportunity to begin or continue learning Spanish.

STEM Spain: What We Taste and See: the Biochemistry and Material Science of the Spanish Experience

Autun Quarter 
Leon, Spain

Led by the UW Bothell faculty David Sommerfeld and Lori Robins, STEM
15 credits, including BCUSP and BCHEM.

This program, located in Leon, a small town with easy access to Madrid, will fully engage students in life in Spain, but also delve into how the brain and body process aesthetic experiences from a biochemical and materials science perspective. Participants will gain greater appreciation for life as you live it in Spain, as well as upon your return home.

Critical Language Scholarship

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program is a fully funded summer study abroad opportunity sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Designed to increase the number of Americans mastering languages critical to national security and global engagement, CLS offers intensive instruction in one of 13 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Korean, and others.

  • Applications open in early October, with a deadline in November (check the website regularly for exact dates and updates).

Rangel Summer Enrichment Program

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is the opportunity for undergraduate students to explore careers in international affairs. Hosted by Howard University and funded by the U.S. Department of State, this fully funded program aims to prepare students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, for future leadership in foreign service and global engagement.

  • Applications open in late November/early December, with the deadline early February (check the website regularly for the exact opening date and updates).

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes

Spend 3–4 weeks at a top UK university exploring culture, history, and academic life through the prestigious Fulbright UK Summer Institutes. Open to first- and second-year U.S. college students, this fully funded program offers a unique opportunity to study abroad, develop leadership skills, and experience life in the UK.

  • Applications open in November, with the deadline in February (check the official website regularly for the exact opening date and updates).

Post-Graduate Opportunities with Fall Deadlines


Looking to expand your horizons after graduation? The following fully funded programs with fall deadlines offer unique opportunities to live, work, and study abroad while gaining invaluable international experience.
 

Fulbright Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program funds research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries. It promotes cultural exchange and academic collaboration, helping participants develop leadership skills and a global perspective.

  • UW Campus Deadline: August 27, 2025
  • National Deadline: October 7, 2025

Luce Scholars Program

The Luce Scholars Program places American graduates in professional internships across Asia, providing immersive experiences in fields such as business, government, and the arts. This fellowship fosters cross-cultural understanding and leadership development.

  • National Deadline: September 15, 2025

JET Program (Japan Exchange and Teaching Program)

The JET Program offers recent graduates the chance to teach English in Japan’s schools or work in local government offices. This hands-on experience promotes cultural exchange and deepens participants’ understanding of Japanese society.

  • Applications open in September, with the deadline early November.

The Collaboratory is transitioning to a new structure this summer and will now be part of Student Engagement & Activities instead of Connected Learning. What does this change mean for you?

The Collaboratory will be closed for the summer and will reopen during the first week of Fall Quarter.

Poised to Impact the Community and the World

The University of Washington Bothell honored more than 1,300 graduates in two Commencement ceremonies at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on June 15. The Class of 2025, totaling more than 1,900, brings the number of UW Bothell alumni to more than 34,000 as the University completes its 35th year. Many students were local to Washington state, and some came from as far away as Cambodia, Lithuania and Rwanda - all on a path to benefit their communities. Jan Hunter’s Enduring Impact

Jan Hunter, a dedicated supporter of UW Bothell, has made a generous $1.5 million gift - alongside her husband, Richard “Dick” Hunter - to help revitalize one of the campus’s most beloved landmarks. Their contribution will support the restoration of the historic Truly House, currently home to the Office of Connected Learning, transforming it into a dynamic hub for events, student engagement, and alumni and community gatherings.
